Founding partner Matt Jacobs is a former federal prosecutor and seasoned trial lawyer who represents executives, companies, and individuals in federal criminal and regulatory matters, as well as complex civil matters nationwide.

Matt's practice focuses on white collar criminal defense, regulatory enforcement, and complex commercial litigation. Clients value Matt’s diligence and direct approach. He advises not only on litigation strategy, but on the broader context in which legal issues arise—business realities, regulatory posture, and long-term consequences.

Since returning to private practice several years ago, Matt has represented witnesses, targets, and defendants at all stages of criminal proceedings. He also has substantial experience representing plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes civil matters. Matt combines prosecutorial insight with sound strategic judgment, guiding clients through investigations discreetly and positioning cases for the strongest possible resolution—whether through negotiated resolutions or trial.

Before founding the firm, Matt served for years as an Assistant United States Attorney, where he investigated and prosecuted complex federal offenses and worked closely with federal law enforcement agencies and regulators. He has tried multiple cases to verdict and handled significant motion practice, evidentiary hearings, and appellate litigation. Matt prosecuted al-Qaeda terrorists, mafia bosses, and child sex traffickers, among many others—and never lost a trial. Matt also led numerous grand jury investigations related to bank fraud, money laundering, tax evasion, health care fraud, and other white collar matters. For his success in the courtroom, Matt was named “Prosecutor of the Year” and received the prestigious “True American Hero” award.

Before serving as a federal prosecutor, Matt specialized in complex commercial litigation and white collar defense at Davis Polk & Wardwell, one of the nation’s top law firms. At Davis Polk, Matt represented corporate and individual clients in a wide range of civil matters, grand jury investigations, and regulatory enforcement actions.

In addition to his experience as a federal prosecutor and white collar defense attorney, Matt served from 2011 to 2012 as a law clerk to the Honorable Andrew J. Guilford, United States District Judge for the Central District of California. In 2022, Matt was a candidate for United States Congress in California’s 26th Congressional District.
